Movie Narrative: The Saint (1997)

            The synopsis follows.  The Saint (1997) is an action adventure story, out of the U.K. and Russia.  In Europe and at a catholic, or orthodox, church orphanage; a young boy starts to learn, and, develop his personality.  This personality lies and disobeys authority.  He is punished in traditional catholic or orthodox ways.  However, he continues to disobey authority.  Coincidentally, he has a crush on one of the girls at the orphanage.  Her name is Agnes.  The boy’s name is John Russi, but, he calls himself Simon Templar.  One night, Simon leads other boys in an escape from the orphanage.  However, before he leaves, he goes to see Agnes.  The nuns wake up and start to look for the children.  In an accident, Agnes falls from the second floor, and, she dies.  Simon Templar grows up to become an international thief.  He always uses the name of a saint, as his name.  In the present time, Simon Templar is in a politically unstable Russia, planning a theft.  The target is Tretiak, one of Russia’s most important and powerful people.  During the theft, Simon meets Tretiak’s son.  Simon is there to steal a micro chip, and, Tretiak’s son attempts to stop the theft.  Subsequently, they have a big violent fight.  Simon barely escapes the fight with Tretiak’s son.  He escaped by jumping off the building.  Additionally, Simon successfully escapes to London, England.  In London, the theft is confirmed to be successful, and, Simon is paid for the micro chip.  A short time after, Tretiak himself, hires Simon Templar to steal cold fusion technology.  Tretiak has plans to overthrow the Russian government, in a coup d'état.  He needs the cold fusion technology, in order, to execute his plan that overthrows the government.  Interestingly, Tretiak does know that, Simon Templar is the man who stole the micro chip.  Director, Phillip Noyce, does a good job.  He successfully takes the viewer, on a captivating journey and story about lies and deception.  The masterfully led journey starts in Moscow Russia, and then, the viewer is transported to London UK.  In something that could only add more suspense, the journey returns to and ends in, Moscow Russia.  The writers do an equally good job.  The character Simon Templar, is a superbly written and clever character.  Additionally, everything about the story works, for story and adventure purposes.  The officially recognized stars contribute tremendously.  They would be missed, if they were not chosen.  Overall, The Saint (1997) earns the rating of 8 out of 10.
            The movie narrative of, The Saint (1997), is as follows.  At a catholic, or orthodox, church orphanage; a young boy starts to learn and develop his personality.  This personality lies and disobeys authority.  He is punished in traditional catholic or orthodox ways.  However, he continues to disobey authority.  He also has a crush on one of the girls, at the orphanage.  Her name is Agnes.  The boy’s name is John Russi, but, he calls himself Simon Templar.  One night, Simon leads other boys in an escape, from the orphanage.  However, before he leaves, he goes to see Agnes.  At this time, the nuns wake up and start to look for the children.  In an accident, Agnes falls from the second floor, and, she dies.  Simon Templar grows up to become an, international thief.  He always uses the name of a saint, as his name.  In the present time, Simon Templar is in a politically unstable Russia, planning a theft.  The target is Tretiak, one of Russia’s most important and powerful people.  During the theft, Simon meets Tretiak’s son.  Simon is there to steal a micro chip, and, Tretiak’s son attempts to stop the theft.  Subsequently, they have a big violent fight.  Simon barely escapes the fight with Tretiak’s son.  He escapes by jumping off the building.  Simon successfully escapes to London, England.  In London, the theft is confirmed to be successful.  Additionally, Simon is paid for the micro chip.  Almost immediately, Simon arranges a meeting with a potential client.  Coincidentally, the potential client is, Tretiak and his son.  The meeting is in Germany.  Simon pretends to be the manager of the thief.  However, Tretiak’s son knows that he is the man that stole the micro chip, and, had a fight with.  Tretiak wants Simon to steal cold fusion technology, from someone in London.  They agree on a deal.  Simon goes to work on stealing cold fusion technology, from a woman named, Dr. Russell.  Simon develops characters and wears disguises, in order, to get close to Dr. Russell.  Simon decides to develop an artist as the character, and, he pursues a romantic relationship with Dr. Russell.  This plan works, and, they become lovers.  Simon successfully steals the formula for cold fusion, and, he sends it to Tretiak.  However, Tretiak doesn’t pay Simon the money.  Tretiak tells Simon that, the formula is incomplete.  Additionally, there is no payment for the incomplete formula.  As this is happening, Tretiak’s son is in London.  He is looking for Simon, in order, to kill him.  The assassination attempt fails, and, Simon escapes to Russia.  Dr. Russell learns that, her formula was stolen.  Immediately, she goes to the police.  In Russia, Simon dresses like Tretiak, and, he successfully finds Tretiak.  He makes Tretiak call his accountant, to be able to, transfer the payment.  After Tretiak transfers the payment, Simon goes to a bar.  Coincidentally, Dr. Russell finds him there.  Simon tells Dr. Russell that, he is a thief and that they paid him 8 million to steal her formula; nothing personal.  For some unknown reason, they are arrested by the Russian police.  It results that, Tretiak is behind the arrest.  However, Simon and Dr. Russell escape, during transportation.  Tretiak orders Simon dead, but, Dr. Russell has to be brought back alive.  Tretiak’s son almost captures them at an airport or bus station.  This starts a street chase, through, the City of Moscow.  Tretiak’s son is the hunter and always one step behind.  To add suspense; it is winter and Simon is freezing to death, because, he hid in the river for a short period of time.  They manage to arrive at the location, of the U.S. Embassy.  In front of the embassy, there are a lot of protesters.  Dr. Russell pretends to be an American, and, she escapes into the U.S. Embassy.  Simon is captured by Tretiak’s son.  However, Simon manages to set fire to their car and it explodes; Simon escapes.  Tretiak sets plans in motion, for a coup d'état.  The coup d'état is supposed to happen, within one day.  Dr. Russell and Simon re-meet inside, the U.S. Embassy.  They decide that Dr. Russell will finish the formula, and then, negotiate a deal with Tretiak.  This is the only way, the trouble ends.  Simon delivers the formula to Tretiak’s scientist.  For some unknown reason, Simon is in the building, when the army starts the coup d'état.  Tretiak’s son enters the room, and, Simon is taken captive.  The army doesn’t finish the coup d'état, and, Tretiak is arrested.  Tretiak’s son is also arrested.  From this point forward; the series of events, take the viewer, to the end.  Finally; you have to watch, in order to know, how this movie ends.
