The synopsis follows. Dust
(2001) is a cowboy story from Eastern Europe. In New York City
a common thief is inside an apartment; tearing it apart. Edge is the name of the thief. Unfortunately, Edge cannot find something to
steal. Out of the darkness, an old woman
reaches out for Edge. Edge brutally
beats her, and, attempts to leave the apartment. Angela is the old woman, and, she turns the
tables on Edge. Angela uses her gun and
keeps Edge in the apartment. Angela sits
down Edge, and, she begins to tell Edge a story. The story appears to have a purpose. Edge attempts to beat Angela one more
time. However, Angela is quick to
respond, and, she breaks Edge’s nose.
Edge is forced to listen to the story with a broken nose. Furthermore, to keep Edge’s attention, Angela,
gives Edge a gold coin; which was part of the necklace. She also tells Edge that, there are more gold
coins, if he buries her where she was born.
Angela continues telling the story, and, the story shifts to two
brothers in the Old West Era of the U.S.A. The two brothers are Luke and Elijah. Luke was a killer, and, Elijah was different
compared to his brother. The two
brothers visit a brothel. Luke and
Elijah fight over a prostitute. Elijah
wins and gets the prostitute named Lilith.
Furthermore, Elijah falls in love with Lilith, and, they get
married. Luke becomes a very bitter
man. Ultimately, his bitterness wins,
and, he leaves the U.S.A. Luke arrives in Paris,
France. While in Paris,
Luke learns of a war between Macedonia
and the Ottoman Empire.
It appears that Macedonia
is rebelling against the Ottoman Empire. Luke feels inspired, and, he travels to the
war. Luke is able to become part of the
war, on the Macedonian side. He joins a
gang of cattle thieves and bounty hunters, in order, to be part of the
war. Back at the apartment, Angela has
difficulty breathing, and, she falls to the floor. Subsequently, she is admitted to the
hospital. Edge visits Angela, at the
hospital. Angela dies in the hospital;
Edge is there, and, he finishes telling the story of Luke and Elijah. Ultimately, the stories of Luke and Elijah
become one story, one more time.
Director Milcho Manchevski does a good job directing this movie. The story is complicated; however, everything
is in a linear sequence. Unfortunately,
as the writer, Milcho Manchevski doesn’t do a good job. A second unfortunately, there are a lot of
things, which cause the story to fall short.
A third unfortunately, the officially recognized stars don’t do a good
job performing their roles. There are a
lot of things missing from the acting performances. Overall, this movie earns the rating of 5 out
of 10.
The movie narrative is as
follows. In an urban downtown, Edge is
inside someone’s apartment stealing things.
Edge is a black man, and, the urban downtown appears to be New

for insurance purposes. Edge returns to
