synopsis follows. Mulholland Falls (1996) is a murder story, which is centered on, love affairs and
romantic relationships. In the City of
Los Angeles, California U.S.A., Allison Pond
is a beautiful young woman. Furthermore,
her beauty has allowed Allison, to enter different worlds of an unforgiving
city. The different worlds include
powerful police officers, and, powerful Generals of the United States Armed
Forces. By entering, one also means,
having sexual relationships with. Jimmy
Fields is a suspected homosexual man, and, Allison’s best friend. Furthermore, Jimmy’s apartment is next door
to Allison’s apartment. Jimmy filmed
with Allison’s knowledge, and without Allison’s knowledge; several home movie
reels. The movie reels show Allison
passing time, and, Allison having sex with important men. Allison’s most recent sexual relationship, is
with an important General named, Thomas Timms.
General Timms allowed Allison and Jimmy, to enter and pass time on, a
U.S. Military Base. Furthermore, Jimmy’s
most recent movie reel; is Allison passing time on the base, and, having sex
with General Timms. Max Hoover is an
old, but, tough detective of the Los Angeles Police Department. Max is also the lead detective, of a squad of
detectives. Furthermore, he also had a
love affair with, Allison Pond. One
faithful day, Max Hoover and his squad of detectives are taken to a
construction site. The construction
site, is also, the scene of a murder.
Regrettably, the murder victim is Allison Pond. Max Hoover quickly recognizes her, when, he
sees the dead body. Within a couple of
days, Jimmy Fields sends Max Hoover the movie reel, of Allison Pond having sex
with General Thomas Timms. Furthermore,
the Coroner’s office believes that, Allison’s body was radioactive. From that point forward, Max Hoover knows
that General Thomas Timms is the primary suspect, in the murder of Allison
Pond. All that he has to do, is figure
out, how he did it. Director, Lee
Tamahori, does a fantastic job directing this movie. The movie, and story, is extremely
engaging. Furthermore, there isn’t a
slow minute. The writers do an equally
fantastic job. This movie is well
written. Additionally, the interaction
between Max and the squad of detectives, is very well written and fun to
watch. The officially recognized stars
contribute tremendously. They would be
missed, if they were not chosen. Special
recognition is merited to Nick Nolte, and, Jennifer Connelly. The Max Hoover and Allison Pond characters,
are outstandingly portrayed. Overall, Mulholland Falls (1996) earns the rating of 8 out of 10.
The
movie narrative of, Mulholland Falls (1996), is as follows. Home video footage starts to play. The home video appears to be centered on a
woman named, Allison Pond. The home
video is playful, and, around the pool area.
Unexpectedly, the video shows an atomic bomb explosion. The scene changes, it is General Thomas Timms
arriving at his house. The scene
changes, there is a wounded soldier, and, another soldier denying filming. The scene changes, General Thomas Timms is
preparing a bed. All of a sudden,
Allison Pond appears in front of the camera.
It also appears that, the camera is hidden behind a mirror. General Thomas Timms and Allison Pond, start
to have sexual intercourse. Everything
becomes, recorded home video. The home
video footage ends. It is the City of Los
Angeles, and, a squad of police detectives arrives at
a location. The lead detective is a man
named, Max Hoover. The detectives are
looking for a man named, Jack Flynn.
Jack Flynn attempts to ignore the detectives. The squad of detectives takes Jack Flynn, to
an unknown location. The detectives call
the location, Mulholland Falls. The squad of detectives throws Jack Flynn,
off the cliff. Jack Flynn lands at the
bottom; severely injured. The squad of
detectives drives down to the bottom, in order, to talk to Jack Flynn. Max tells Flynn to return to Chicago,
because, Los Angeles doesn’t have
organized crime. Max meets-up with his
wife, Katherine, at a bar. At a
construction site, the squad of detectives arrives. Furthermore, the construction site is a
murder scene. A woman is dead, face
down. She also appears, to have been,
crushed to death. The detectives roll
the body over, and, the woman is Allison Pond.
It appears as if, Max Hoover recognizes the woman. Max is present, at the coroner’s office,
whilst the body is being inspected. Max
returns to his home, and, he passes time with his wife. At the police station, Max receives a movie
reel in the mail. Max and Elleroy sit
down, in order, to watch the film.
Elleroy quickly identifies the woman, as the murder victim. Max turns off the projector, and, he leaves
the room. Elleroy follows Max to a
conference room. Max calls a telephone
number that, came with the movie reel.
Max travels to the beach, in order, to meet-up with someone. The man identifies himself, as the person,
who sent the movie reel. He also asks
for police protection. The man is named,
Jimmy Fields. Fields tells Max, that
they are, mutual friends with the woman in the movie. Fields also tells Max that, the man is,
General Timms. Fields confesses that,
there are several movies. Unexpectedly,
Max decides to leave Fields at the beach.
At the police station, Max talks to the other members of the squad. The squad of detectives travels, to Allison
Pond’s apartment. Max looks around
Allison’s apartment, and, it has been torn apart. Max remembers the romantic relationship,
which he had, with Allison Pond. The
other detectives tell Max that, Jimmy Fields lives next door. Furthermore, they have the key and
enter. Surprisingly, Fields’s apartment
is also torn apart. Max discovers how
Fields filmed Allison, having sex with men.
One of the detectives knows, what is happening. Furthermore, he asks Max how long, he had
been seeing Allison; and where. Max and
the other detective, talk about Max being in a movie reel. The rest of the squad knows, furthermore, the
squad and Max pass time talking about it.
Max asks, if anyone knows about, General Thomas Timms. One of the detectives knows. General Timms is the Chairman of the Atomic
Energy Commission. Max sits down to talk
to Fields, at the police station. Fields
tells Max that he made the movies, in order, to be part of the sex. Additionally, all of the movies have been
stolen, and, he is in several movies.
The movie reel, which he sent to him, was at the laboratory when the
rest were stolen. Max and Elleroy have
an argument, about Max telling his wife.
Police detectives, from the squad, pass time at Fields’s beach
house. The police detectives are there
protecting Fields. Unexpectedly, someone
opens automatic gunfire on the house.
Fields disappears, and, one detective is killed. The next morning, Max arrives along with
several other police officers. The other
police officers find Fields, dead.
Furthermore, they show the body to Max.
Max is present; at the Coroner’s office, whilst, Fields’s body is
inspected. After the inspection, one of
the doctors, shows Max something on an x-ray.
The x-ray reveals that one of Allison’s feet, was in fact,
radioactive. The squad of detectives
travels to a U.S.
military base, in order, to talk to General Timms. The squad of detectives is denied
entrance. Max finds another entrance,
and, Max and the squad enter in an unauthorized manner. Max and the squad arrive, at a giant
hole. The hole appears to have been
caused by an atomic bomb. Max collects
glass that, was formed around the hole.
Soldiers are approaching, and, Max and the squad attempt to escape. Unfortunately, Max and the squad are
captured. Colonel Fitzgerald captures
the group. General Timms calls Colonel
Fitzgerald, furthermore, General Timms allows Max to see him. Max is taken to see General Timms, at his
house on the base. Max tells General
Timms that, he wants to talk about Allison Pond. General Timms knows that, she is dead. General Timms does reveal that, he had, a
romantic relationship with Allison Pond.
Furthermore, General Timms does say that, he saw her before her
death. Before he leaves, Max leaves the
glass which he collected, and, he implies that Allison Pond was
radioactive. Max requests further
communication. General Timms tells Max
that, he can have further communication; with Colonel Fitzgerald. After Max leaves, Colonel Fitzgerald tells
General Timms that, they will have the movie reel within 24 hours. Max and the squad return to Los
Angeles, California U.S.A. Almost immediately, the Police Chief asks Max
to sit in on a meeting with the F.B.I.
The F.B.I. has an interest in the Allison Pond case. Furthermore, they ask Max to stop
investigating General Timms. The F.B.I.
agent leaves. Max and the Police Chief,
talk about the Allison Pond case. The F.B.I.
goes to Max’s house, and, they tear it apart looking for the movie reel. Max returns to a home, which has been, torn
apart. His wife tells him what the
F.B.I. wanted. Max checks to see, if the
movie reel is still in his house. Max
travels, and, he successfully finds the F.B.I. agents. Max brutally beats up, all of the F.B.I.
agents. At Max’s house, someone leaves a
movie reel. Max returns home, and, he
finds his wife watching the movie reel.
The movie reel shows Max, having sex with Allison Pond. Max confesses the romantic relationship, to
his wife. Unexpectedly, Colonel
Fitzgerald calls Max on the telephone.
Furthermore, Max is informed that the movie reel is a copy. The original is still with them. Max and Colonel Fitzgerald agree to meet, in
order, to exchange movie reels. From
this point forward; the series of events, take the viewer, to the end. Elleroy goes with Max to the exchange
meeting. Regrettably, things don’t go
according to the plan. Allison’s killer
is revealed. Finally; you have to watch,
in order to know, how this movie ends.
The
