Movie Narrative: Counterpunch (2014) (2019)

            The synopsis follows.  Counterpunch (2014) (2019) is a drama movie about an aspiring boxer, out of the U.S.A.  In Miami, Florida U.S.A., Emilio Manrique is a boxer who aspires to become one of the best.  Unfortunately, the circumstances that surround his life, have landed Emilio in a psychiatric hospital; as a patient.  Manny Navarro is taken to Emilio’s patient room, by a psychiatrist.  Manny Navarro enters, and, he discovers Emilio in an erratic and crazy state.  Furthermore, Emilio Manrique doesn’t know, where he is at.  For Navarro, the work of rehabilitating Emilio, just became more difficult.  Hospital staff arrives, and, they restrain Emilio.  Navarro and Emilio start the story, from the beginning.  Under a bridge, a young Emilio passes time with a young Beto, and, a young Sergio.  The young Sergio is the eldest of the three.  Furthermore, he plans the day’s activity; robbing a man.  The young Emilio lies in the middle of the street.  He is pretending to be, the victim of a car accident.  A rich man stops his car, and, he gets out and attends to young Emilio.  Unexpectedly, young Sergio beats and robs the man.  Young Beto, distracts the woman passenger of the car.  The three boys return to their spot, under the bridge, victorious.  Additionally, they successfully defend their spot, in a street fight, against four black men or boys.  Later on that night; Emilio wakes up, and, he discovers his mother’s boyfriend choking his mother to death.  Emilio beats the man with a baseball bat, and, he stabs the man’s shoulder with a pocket knife.  Emilio’s mother is named, Lydia.  The police arrest Lydia’s boyfriend.  Additionally, the police also arrest Emilio.  Emilio is convicted and sentenced, to a juvenile detention center.  As a result of the conviction, Lydia loses legal custody of Emilio.  Emilio grows up under the care of Grandma Daisy, and, Uncle Frank.  Uncle Frank is the owner of a boxing gym.  Furthermore, Emilio passes a lot of time cleaning and training, at the boxing gym.  In the present time; Emilio is all grown up, and, he is a rising star in the boxing circles of Miami, Florida U.S.A.  On faithful day, Emilio re-unites with Sergio and Beto.  During their time, re-united, Emilio cannot escape the circumstances that, surround his life.  Additionally, Emilio’s actions and decisions, take his life to the psychiatric hospital.  In time, Navarro guides Emilio to his release, from the hospital.  Director, Kenneth Castillo, does a good job.  The story is fun, simple and engaging.  The writers do an equally good job.  The story is simple, and, nothing is exaggerated.  Furthermore, the simplicity of the story makes it entertaining.  The officially recognized stars contribute tremendously.  They would be missed, if they were not chosen.  Overall, Counterpunch (2014) (2019) earns the rating of 6 out of 10. 
            The movie narrative of, Counterpunch (2014) (2019), is as follows.  At a boxing gym, Emilio Manrique shadow boxes.  The scene changes, Manny Navarro walks with a psychiatrist, inside of a psychiatric hospital.  Manny enters a guest room, or, patient room.  Emilio Manrique is inside in an erratic, and, crazy state.  Emilio doesn’t know, where he is at.  Navarro tells Emilio that, he is a patient at South Miami Mental Hospital.  Unexpectedly, Emilio’s erratic behavior becomes too erratic, and, crazy.  Hospital staff arrives, in order, to hold Emilio down.  The scene changes, Emilio narrates his life’s story.  The city is Miami, Florida U.S.A.  Under a bridge, a young Emilio passes time with a young Beto, and, a young Sergio.  The young Sergio is the eldest of the three.  Furthermore, he rolls a marijuana joint.  Uncle Frank eats breakfast at Grandma Daisy’s apartment.  Uncle Frank, is Emilio Manrique’s uncle.  Grandma Daisy, is Uncle Frank’s mother.  Lydia Manrique is in the bathroom taking a shower.  Lydia is a woman with a lot of personal problems, and, issues.  Additionally, she is Emilio’s mother, and, Grandma Daisy’s daughter.  Lydia comes out of the bathroom, and, she starts a brief conversation with Uncle Frank.  The scene changes, a young Emilio is lying on the street.  He is pretending to be a victim of a car accident.  A rich man stops his car, and, he gets out and attends to a young Emilio.  Unexpectedly, young Sergio comes out to beat, and, rob the man.  Young Beto, distracts the woman passenger of the car.  The theft is successful, and, all three boys run.  The scene changes, Uncle Frank is talking with Lydia.  The conversation becomes a brief argument.  Uncle Frank decides to leave Grandma Daisy’s apartment.  The scene changes, the three boys return to their spot under the bridge.  Young Sergio and young Beto start drinking beer.  Young Sergio gives young Emilio, a pocket knife.  Unexpectedly, four black men, or boys, arrive at their spot under the bridge.  The black men identify as Haitian.  A fist fight erupts, and, the Haitians leave.  At night, young Emilio is at home, in his mother’s apartment.  Young Emilio is talking to his mother, when, his mother’s boyfriend interrupts.  The apartment doesn’t have water.  Lydia discovers that, young Emilio has been fighting.  Lydia’s boyfriend returns to recommend, an ass-whipping.  Young Emilio passes time with his puppy.  During the night; young Emilio wakes up, because, he hears noises.  Young Emilio discovers his mother’s boyfriend, choking his mother to death.  Young Emilio hits his mother’s boyfriend, with a baseball bat.  Then, young Emilio quickly stabs his mother’s boyfriend, in the shoulder.  The police arrive and arrest Lydia’s boyfriend.  Additionally, the police also arrest young Emilio.  Uncle Frank is there to help.  Young Emilio is convicted of assault with a deadly weapon.  Young Emilio serves 7 months in a juvenile detention center.  As a result of the conviction, Lydia Manrique, loses legal custody of Emilio.  Emilio is released to, Grandma Daisy.  The scene changes, Navarro is with Emilio in the psychiatric hospital.  Emilio is restrained, and, sitting on his bed.  Navarro delivers a letter, from Uncle Frank.  The scene changes, a young Emilio trains boxing.  Additionally, he trains at Uncle Frank’s boxing gym.  Emilio cleans the gym, after he finishes training.  As he continues training, Emilio grows up.  Emilio has grown, to the present time.  In the present time, Uncle Frank watches and trains, Emilio.  A boxing promoter, Benjamin Portillo, arrives to talk to Uncle Frank.  B.Portillo leaves his attractive girlfriend, with the boxers.  B.Portillo tells Uncle Frank that, he will not promote Emilio Manrique.  Emilio is sparing, when, Talia Portillo arrives at the boxing gym.  Talia Portillo is Benjamin Portillo’s daughter.  Emilio stops sparing, and, he talks to T.Portillo.  T. Portillo attempts to give Emilio boxing advice.  The scene changes, Navarro talks to Emilio at the psychiatric hospital.  The scene changes, Emilio sits, with his dog at a bus stop.  At B.Portillo’s house, T.Portillo attempts to talk to B.Portillo.  B.Portillo’s girlfriend interrupts the conversation.  Later on in the day, T.Portillo talks to B.Portillo.  Furthermore, they talk about Emilio, and, Emilio’s boxing career.  B.Portillo doesn’t want to promote Emilio.  T.Portillo tells her father, B.Portillo, that she will promote Emilio.  At Grandma Daisy’s apartment, Emilio watches television with his grandmother.  Unexpectedly, Lydia calls Emilio on the telephone.  Lydia agrees to meet-up with Emilio, before Emilio’s boxing match.  Emilio fights in a boxing match.  Grandma Daisy watches Emilio, during the boxing match.  Emilio notices that his mother, did not, attend the boxing match.  The boxing match ends, it appears as if, Emilio won.  Emilio and his opponent, change clothes together, after the boxing match.  Outside of the boxing gym, the opponent’s older brother starts a shoving fight with Emilio.  Grandma Daisy arrives to break up, the fight.  The man’s name is Teddy.  At Grandma Daisy’s apartment, Lydia arrives to talk to her son; Emilio.  Lydia attempts to talk to Emilio about her life.  Lydia leaves, and, Emilio becomes extremely agitated.  Unexpectedly, T.Portillo arrives at Grandma Daisy’s apartment.  T.Portillo invites Emilio to go out, and, pass time together.  Emilio agrees to go.  Grandma Daisy works her job cleaning houses.  Uncle Frank calls Grandma Daisy on the telephone.  Furthermore, he invites her to a dinner celebration with Emilio, and, himself.  Grandma Daisy rejects the invitation.  T.Portillo and Emilio pass time together in Miami, Florida U.S.A.  Additionally, T.Portillo buys Emilio clothes.  Emilio doesn’t meet-up with Uncle Frank, for the dinner celebration.  Instead, Emilio attends a party with T.Portillo.  At the party, T.Portillo announces her new boxing promotions business.  Additionally, she announces her first fighter; Emilio Manrique.  Emilio feels nervous, and, he leaves the party.  Grudgingly, Emilio agrees to being promoted by, T.Portillo.  T.Portillo and Emilio, return to the party.  During the party, Teddy and B.Portillo’s girlfriend confront Emilio.  T.Portillo breaks up the confrontation.  Furthermore, T.Portillo suspects that Teddy is having sex, with her father’s girlfriend.  Teddy and T.Portillo have their own confrontation, with each other.  The scene changes, Navarro watches television, with Emilio at the psychiatric hospital.  Additionally, Emilio talks to Navarro about his mother.  The scene changes, Emilio is at the boxing gym with Uncle Frank.  Uncle Frank gives Emilio a gift, which was left for him by his mother.  Emilio travels to visit his mother.  Emilio eats dinner at his mother’s apartment.  Emilio receives a telephone call, informing him that, his grandmother is in the hospital.  Uncle Frank and Emilio arrive at the hospital.  Furthermore, they pass time with Grandma Daisy.  Uncle Frank and Emilio, leave the hospital.  Uncle Frank and Emilio, return to the boxing gym.  Emilio returns to training, to fight in boxing matches.  Unexpectedly, he starts to argue with Uncle Frank.  Emilio leaves the boxing gym, angry.  Emilio returns to the spot, under the bridge, where he used to hang-out as a boy.  Surprisingly, Emilio re-unites with Sergio and Beto.  The three old friends are happy to see each other.  Additionally, Beto and Sergio take Emilio out to party.  The group of three passes time, drinking beer together.  The group of three is involved in a fist fight, at the party.  The group of three leaves the party.  The group of three is Emilio, Sergio and Beto.  The group of three friends stops, in order, to smoke marijuana.  Additionally, they notice a couple having sex, inside of a car.  Sergio and Beto take the man out of the car.  They beat the man, and, they attempt to have sex with the woman, or, rape the woman.  Emilio enters a psychotic state, and, he cuts his wrists with a piece of broken glass.  Sergio and Beto run, and, they leave Emilio behind.  The scene changes, Emilio is at the psychiatric hospital in a distraught state.  Emilio shouts for Manny Navarro.  The scene changes, Uncle Frank cooks at Grandma Daisy’s apartment.  Furthermore, it is Grandma Daisy’s first day, out of the hospital.  Uncle Frank tells Grandma Daisy that, Emilio attempted suicide.  Furthermore, that he is being held in a psychiatric hospital.  The scene changes, Emilio passes time in the psychiatric hospital.  Navarro returns, and, he passes time with Emilio.  Uncle Frank and Grandma Daisy, arrive at the psychiatric hospital.  Furthermore; they have a meeting with Emilio, Navarro and the psychiatrist.  Emilio is released, but, he has to continue counseling with Navarro.  From this point forward; the series of events, take the viewer, to the end.  Finally; you have to watch, in order to know, how this movie ends.
