prepares to leave the town. Everyone is
in the downtown area. Sheriff Ray Owens

the diner, Sheriff Owens sits down at the counter. A worker greets Sheriff Owens. Furthermore, he shares that, the weekend will
be quiet. It is 3:30 am, in Las Vegas, Nevada. F.B.I. Agent John Bannister arrives, to be
able to, conduct a quick meeting. A top
secret operation is about to begin. A
federal prisoner is about to be moved, to federal death row. Gabriel Cortez, the notorious Mexican Drug
Cartel Boss, is the prisoner. Dozens of
F.B.I. agents, are going to take part.
Cortez is placed inside a cargo van.
The F.B.I. agents enter their cars, and, a large convoy leaves. The convoy stops at a red light. Unexpectedly, a large construction magnet
picks up the cargo van. Inside the cargo
van, Cortez fights the F.B.I. agent. The
F.B.I. agents exit the cars, and, they watch.
A gunman, opens fire on the F.B.I. agents. The gunman stands on the magnet. The cargo van is placed on the flat roof, of
a building. The F.B.I. agents enter the
building. They start to run up, to the
flat roof. Three gunmen open the cargo
van; with a bomb. The F.B.I. agents are
on the staircase; ascending. Cortez is
alive, whilst, the F.B.I. agent is dead.

radius. Cortez’s men, give Cortez a
prototype Corvette ZR1 for the escape.
Cortez begins to fly, on the highway.
He also hopes to arrive at the border, with the Country of Mexico, very quickly. Furthermore, Cortez plans to cross the
border, through, Sommerton Arizona. Meanwhile and in Sommerton, Sheriff Owens
learns that the weekend is not going to happen in a quiet manner. Sheriff Owens discovers a murdered farmer,
Mr. Parsons. Deputy Sheriff Bailey is
killed in a big gunfight. Furthermore,
the gunfight was against a man named, Burrell.
Burrell is Cortez’s man in Sommerton.
Overall, Sheriff Owens fully understands Cortez’s escape plan. Furthermore, he knows where Cortez will attempt
to cross the border. At the location,
Sheriff Owens discovers a bridge. He
also decides to defend the bridge, and prevent, Cortez from crossing into Mexico. At the same time, the remaining deputy
sheriffs, along with 2 local citizens, prepare to defend the downtown
area. The downtown is going to be
attacked, by Burrell and his men. The
full scale battle occurs, in the downtown.
On the bridge, Cortez arrives and an all out fist fight occurs. The fight is between Cortez and Sheriff
Owens. Director, Jee-woon Kim/Kim
Jee-woon, does a good job. To start, all
of the action sequences in this movie work.
The stunts, the gunfights, the explosions and the high speed driving are
all fantastic stuff. Additionally, there
is a touch of originality, to the previously mentioned. Regrettably, several things fall short. The other parts of the movie, needed more
development. However, a good effort is
recognized. The writer does an equally
good job. The story is captivating,
through its simplicity. The Mexican Drug
Cartel stuff is also done, in the correct amounts. There isn’t a lot of overkill, to this aspect
of the movie. Furthermore, there is a
touch of originality, which can be felt.
Unfortunately, several things fall short. For example, the interaction between the
characters needed more development.
Obviously, the character Sheriff Owens, needed more charm and
personality. However and finally, a good
writing effort is recognized. The
officially recognized stars contribute tremendously. They would be missed, if they were not
chosen. Overall, The Last Stand (2013) earns the rating of 5 out of 10.

on? Sheriff Owens wants to see a gun

manner. From a distance and
unexpectedly, one of Burrell’s men shots and kills, the farmer. At the Sheriffs’ Station, a woman deputy

Apparently, the man is her ex-boyfriend.
The ex-boyfriend asks, for an aspirin.
He also wants to talk about, why, he is the ex-boyfriend. The deputy sheriff continues to reprimand,
her ex-boyfriend. The ex-boyfriend is
named Frank. The woman deputy sheriff is
named Sarah. Out of nowhere, Deputy
Sheriff Bailey arrives to greet Frank.
Surprisingly, Bailey asks if, they are a couple again. Frank says maybe, whilst, Sarah says no. Bailey also asks, out loud, if Frank can be
released. Deputy Sheriff Figuerola
enters and says, no. Frank has to be in

would be preferable. Bailey also knows
that, Sheriff Owens once worked narcotics in the City of Los
Angeles.
Sheriff Owens says, Sommerton has its charms. Surprisingly, Deputy Sheriff Bailey asks for
a transfer. He wants to transfer to Los
Angeles.
Sheriff Owens thinks that, Los Angeles
is not a good place for Bailey. He also
understands that, Bailey is a young man.
